Singleton Weddings
When you think about a wedding in the Hunter region, Singleton may feel like it is slightly off the beaten-track. But don’t discount this pretty town yet, as it has lots to offer the bride-to-be.

For starters, if you are planning a church wedding there are some great options in Singleton. Most denominations are catered for. The Anglican Church, All Saints, is a gorgeous church with Jacaranda trees throughout the grounds and has an ornate Victorian Gothic rectory.

The most popular church for visiting or for weddings is part of an entire complex. The compound that houses the Catholic Church on Queen St also boasts some other amazing buildings. The oldest building within the group is a Georgian-style cottage, octagonal in shape. It was started as a presbytery but in the 1840’s became a convent to house the Sisters of Mercy who arrived from Ireland. In the late 1850’s a new convent was built for them.

The ‘new’ convent is absolutely beautiful, with brick arches, ornamental steel ceilings, leadlight windows and doors and best of all the gorgeous gardens that surround it. It is still occupied by resident and visiting Sisters but weddings are welcomed on the premises. Because of these amazing surrounds you don’t even need to leave the compounds for your photos.

If you would prefer an outdoor ceremony then you can’t go past Burdekin Park. This amazing place features the most gorgeous flowerbeds throughout spring and autumn. There are also vintage garden benches and gas lamps and even a restored horse fountain. The park boasts some very old trees, which look great in wedding photographs. There is even a music shell, which can be used for ceremonies in case of bad weather. Because this park is so popular for weddings you will need to make a booking ahead of time.

Before heading to your reception, there are other great locations to have your photos taken around Singleton. The abundance of heritage buildings lends that ‘old world’ feel and makes any photo great. Alternatively drive up to Lake St Clair and have your photos set by the picture perfect water, or for something a bit different, have them taken in front of the dam walls.
