Sustainable credentials

As well as being Australia’s largest organic wine producer, with some award-winning wines under its belt, Tambourlaine is a carbon-neutral winery.

First established in 1966, the winery was bought in 1985 by a small group led by current Managing Director and Chief Winemaker, Mark Davidson, and proudly publishes its environmental policy. Tambourlaine is committed to ensuring its environmental impact is minimised.

The management actively works to prevent pollution, and incorporates sustainable water and energy management, including recycling and minimising waste into the winery’s working practices.

Award-winning Tambourlaine

In 2012, Tambourlaine was a state finalist in three categories in the Australian Bridal Industry Awards, for the sixth consecutive year. The awards are based on bridal couples’ votes on the quality of service, and value for money delivered by venues. Tambourlaine was also the only Hunter Valley wedding venue to reach the top 20 in the 2011 National Designer of Dreams award.

Perfection and attention to detail

With over 10 years of experience planning and delivering award-winning weddings, you can be confident that the people at Tambourlaine know how to turn your wedding ideas into a day perfectly tailored to your wishes. They make a particular point of getting the details exactly right, down to the smallest bow and the fold of every napkin. The aim is that you don’t have to worry about a thing except making sure the photographer gets your best side!

A spectacular lakeside setting

The homestead-style Lodge is designed to be close to nature with wide, shady verandahs supplemented by a delightful deck extending out over the lake. The Lodge provides a blend of indoor comfort with a natural outdoor atmosphere, and enables guests to move in and out freely. There’s no need to worry about other visitors to the winery either, as the private Lodge grounds are reserved for the exclusive use of the wedding guests.

Flexible layout

The main reception room can be decorated in a number of ways, including full or part ceiling drapes for a marquee effect, and tiny lights to simulate stars in the night sky. There is room for plenty of tables as well as a generous polished wood dance floor on which to boogie the night away.

The lake plays its part as night falls, and the central fountain is dramatically lit to heighten the romantic atmosphere. A display of fireworks creates a stunning note with which to herald your departure on honeymoon.

Although planning a wedding is a big project, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing a wedding venue in this fabulous location. However, perhaps we can make life a little easier by recommending one of our favourite Hunter Valley wedding venues – Restaurant Cuvee at Peterson House.

Restaurant Cuvee Peterson House

Multi-award winning Restaurant Cuvee is an integral part of the Peterson House estate. It is beautifully sited amidst landscaped lawns and cottage gardens, which set off its charming sandstone walls and airy ceilings with exposed timber beams. Lanterns strung amongst the trees increase the inviting, intimate atmosphere as twilight falls.

The venue is ideal for an elegant, stylish wedding, with stunning views from the deck over rows of manicured vines for you and your guests to enjoy. The gardens are a treat for the senses too, whatever the season. Should you be getting married in spring, you’ll find the spectacular cherry blossoms are definitely a highlight. With so many settings and backdrops to pose against, your photographer should have little difficulty in creating wedding photographs that will bring a smile to your face every time you look at them in years to come.

Ceremony and reception

Restaurant Cuvee can handle both ceremony and reception for you, and you may have the choice of an outdoor ceremony as well, depending of course on the weather. The venue can accommodate small, intimate weddings and larger celebrations of up to 140 guests.

Dedicated wedding co-ordinator

This iconic venue has its own wedding co-ordinator to help take the strain out of organising your day, and make sure you enjoy a seamless, highly personalised event.

Nothing is left to chance, not even the weather, as there’s always a Plan B, just in case the ceremony needs to move location – which means you can relax, knowing you’re in safe hands.

With so much experience to call on, your co-ordinator knows just who to go to whatever you need, although Restaurant Cuvee can provide themed decorations, chair covers and even a red carpet!

Celebrations with sparkle

Peterson House specialises in producing the finest sparkling wines, so you won’t be short of a bubble or two at this venue! The vision of producing traditionally made sparkling wine grew out of the founder’s desire to celebrate the birth of his first grandchild and the whole ethos of Peterson House is one of celebration, making it just perfect for weddings!

Red, white and blush

The word ‘cuvee’ is a winemaker’s term referring to the way grape varieties and vintages are blended to produce first class wines. Peterson House produces a great range of sparkling wines, including some unusual sparkling whites. You’ll find they have Pinot Noir Chardonnay blends as well as sparkling Shiraz, Cabernet, Merlot and Chambourcin wines.

Cuisine

Naturally the Restaurant Cuvee celebration menus are designed to showcase and complement Peterson House’s wine offer. Featuring fresh, seasonal produce and modern Australian cuisine, the venue recently won Restaurant Wedding Caterer 2012 for northern NSW.

Let’s get started!

Now that you have an idea of what’s on offer, it’s time to find out more about Restaurant Cuvee Peterson House. We’re sure you’ll have a wedding to remember!

Caves Beachside

Caves Beachside

Newcastle wedding venues range from the gorgeous to the stunning, and no wonder. Newcastle has reinvented itself as a centre for culture and the arts, and its stylish wedding venues reflect the new ambience.

As the second largest city in NSW, Newcastle’s growing popularity has seen it embrace a number of wonderful restaurants, too.

Newcastle makes the perfect venue for a wedding, whether you’re looking for a traditional waterside venue, or a contemporary restaurant.

A beach wedding

Getting married on one of Newcastle’s stunning surf beaches is sure to be both romantic, and result in some truly memorable photos. Just imagine yourself framed by stunning vistas of endless blue sky and aquamarine sea. The foaming white surf will, of course, complement your bridal outfit to perfection too!

A waterside wedding

Newcastle is known for its laid back and welcoming vibe, but if a beach wedding is just a bit too laid back for you, then why not combine the best of both worlds with a venue located at the water’s edge?

Venues with sparkling sea views are always popular, so be prepared to book well in advance. If you simply must have a particular venue and it’s all booked out, you may have to consider changing the date of your wedding and we’re sure you won’t want to do that. It makes good sense therefore to decide on your venue before finalising the wedding date.

Multi-site or single venue?

Really, it’s up to you. There are no rules dictating that you should have your wedding in one place, and reception in another, and many Newcastle wedding venues can handle both ceremony and reception with ease.

The main advantage of a single venue is that it tends to simplify the day’s logistics. For instance there’s no risk of traffic jams after the ceremony, caused by everyone dashing off to the reception, and no risk of Aunty Flo getting lost and turning up late.

On the other hand, if you have your heart set on getting married in a church or another faith-based setting, then typically you will require a separate reception venue. Fortunately Newcastle’s many options mean you won’t have to travel far and (added bonus!) parking is generally easy to find.

One distinct advantage of even a short journey between venues is that it offers you and your new husband the opportunity of a few minutes on your own to relax before you launch into the next emotional wave at the reception.

A restaurant reception venue

Holding your reception at a restaurant is a fantastic way to take advantage of one of Newcastle’s many fine cuisine offerings. You may also be able to book the whole restaurant for added privacy, just like the celebrities do!

Some points to check with any restaurant include:

– Many couples want the reception to include dancing, does the restaurant have suitable space?

– What are the options for music? Is there space and facilities for a live band or a DJ?

– Can the restaurant lay on any entertainment and if not, will they let you organise your own?

– What are the menu options and can you sample the food before booking?

– Who organises a microphone for speeches if required?

When you’re ready to begin

We’ve made it easy to find Newcastle wedding venues with our directory listings. With so much information beautifully contained in a single directory, it’s our mission to help make choosing a place to get married and hold your reception fun and easy.

Are you looking to organise a beachfront wedding in the Lake Macquarie area? You may want to consider the fabulous deco-style Awaba House. Holding your wedding at Awaba House offers you a number of options for creating a highly distinctive event that you and your guests will enjoy and remember for years to come.

Location

Charming, comfortable and sophisticated, Awaba House nestles amid 15 acres of landscaped parkland on the waterfront by Lake Macquarie. It is an authentic 1920s art deco building, complemented by an intriguing roof, stylish portico and leadlight style windows. In other words, if you hold your wedding here you can look forward to some stunning wedding photographs.

This exclusive waterfront location includes a deep-water jetty, if guests want to access the venue by boat. Or why not consider arriving for your wedding by boat instead of a limousine? That’s sure to start your wedding off in style!

With acres of manicured parkland, including some awesome Port Jackson fig trees surrounding the house, you can choose to hold an outdoor wedding and indoor reception, or any combination of the two. The grounds also contain an art gallery and a sculpture garden, offering plenty of opportunities for innovative photography and for guests to amuse themselves while you are having your photographs taken.

The indoor function room is an elegant glass conservatory with the unique touch of a silk-lined ceiling, for a truly luxurious feel. It also offers unobscured views of the lake and gardens.

Service

Awaba House can accommodate wedding parties of up to 80 for a sit down meal, and provides a varied cocktail-style menu for larger weddings.

Awaba House is known for superb food and exceptional service, delivered with faultless professionalism by staff members who work hard to create the perfect atmosphere of celebration for every event.

History

Recognised as one of the original estates that were established around Lake Macquarie’s prime acres, Awaba House has been owned by several families over its history, and its fortunes have waxed and waned through the years.

The name ‘Awaba’ means ‘flat or plain surface’. It is the name given to Lake Macquarie by the indigenous people of the area. Europeans settled the land from Teralba to Bolton Point between 1822 and 1842, as recorded by a land grant of 500 acres to James Mitchell.

On his death, the property passed to his daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and William Quigley, who built the original Awaba House in 1878. This was located close to the present house, but the Quigleys did not enjoy it for long, as William died in a horse accident and his wife lost her life after fire gutted the house in 1886.

However the very next year William’s brother Daniel Quigley rebuilt, and his family occupied the property until 1913. Records show that one Thomas Braye of Newcastle took over the property and 15 acres immediately around it, forming the estate as it is today. The Braye family owned the property until 1958, during which time they tore down the second Awaba House, building the third and current building in 1927. While the previous buildings may have been rather rough and ready, this third building was elegantly designed by a local architect to reflect the art deco style and tastes of the 1920s, resulting in a charming building full of history and style.

In 1958, the property was taken over by the Hospitals Commission and was occupied by a succession of tenants. Awaba House eventually became in danger of neglect before being rescued by Lake Macquarie City Council, which bought the property outright in 1993, operating it as the city’s art gallery. Now, Awaba House has been reincarnated as the restaurant and venue space that we see today.

Holding your wedding at Awaba House

If you’re ready to take the next step and organise your wedding at Awaba House, all you need to do is click on our listings for wedding venues. We’re confident you won’t be disappointed in the beautiful setting and the service. Awaba House is the ideal wedding venue, full of romance, and a rich history that will be sure to intrigue your guests on the day.

Wedding Reception Venues: Newcastle Highlights

Posted in Newcastle Weddings, Wedding Reception Venues by HUNTER BRIDE

Waterfront Venues Newcastle

Waterfront Venues Newcastle

Choosing a reception venue is one of the biggest decisions you make when planning your wedding, and research is vital. The first step is to come up with some likely options, and contact them to find out what they offer. Do a quick visit, to get a general sense of the property. You can then narrow down your choices to a shortlist, ready for more in-depth research, or meetings.

When it comes to wedding reception venues, Newcastle has plenty of possibilities. A reception by the water is always a popular option. Or you might take advantage of Newcastle’s thriving culinary credentials, and enjoy a reception at one of the city’s newest fine dining establishments.

Style of reception

In choosing your reception venue, you’ll no doubt take into account the style of reception – formal meal, cocktail affair, perhaps dinner and dancing. You may be guided by the style of venue when you find somewhere you love, or you may have a full reception planned in your head before you even start your venue search.

Another option is to hold your reception at a restaurant, rather than at a dedicated reception venue. In either case, you’ll need to ensure the venue is suitable. Will the room size fit the anticipated number of guests? Is there a dance floor or space for dancing? Does the venue provide entertainment – or will you be able to bring along the string quartet or swing band you had in mind? Before phoning or visiting possible venues, create a list of all the relevant details – date, time, number of guests et cetera.

A meal to remember

Newcastle is a buzzing city with a laidback atmosphere, and a reputation for being welcoming. Newcastle has had something of a resurgence in popularity in recent years, which has seen an influx of fine dining restaurants – so there’s plenty of opportunity to discover wonderful cuisine.

Whether it’s a sit-down affair, or a casual cocktail function, food is part and parcel of most weddings. If you’ve found a venue that looks right, discuss the menu options. In most cases, you’ll be able to choose from a few suggested menus to tailor something for the occasion. When you send out your invitations, query if any of your guests are vegetarian, or if they have any food intolerances. Most restaurants and reception venues will be able to assist with a meal to suit. Do make a point to sample the food before booking.

Location, location, location

The location of your ceremony will obviously impact where you hold the reception. It makes sense to choose something in close proximity, with parking and good transport options (certainly easy to find in Newcastle).

Some reception venues may permit you to marry on site. If you’re interested, be sure to discuss this option early. It’s also a good idea to get in early for venues with ocean views, as they tend to book up quickly at peak times.

Other considerations

In deciding on a reception venue, there are other considerations, apart from location, style and menu options, that factor into your decision. As a guide, you’ll want to be very clear on:

– Total price and inclusions. Check if the venue is licenced only, or if you may bring alcohol.

– The start and finish time.

– If you have exclusive use of the space, particularly if the venue is a restaurant.

– Decorations – are any provided? Can you bring your own?

– Access times and options for you to deliver cake, and to decorate.

– Entertainment – can you bring entertainers? What equipment is provided; when can they have access to set up?

– Is there a microphone for speeches?

– Is there dimmable lighting?

Where to begin

The internet is a wonderful resource for wedding planning, and it can save you valuable time – and energy! If the reception is the next item on your wedding to-do list, Hunter Bride can help. Our directory listings of wedding reception venues, Newcastle, are an excellent place to start your search for the perfect wedding venue.

A Wedding Reception to Remember in the Gorgeous Hunter Valley

A Wedding Reception to Remember

Will it be a restaurant among the vines, or a marquee under the stars overlooking lush grassy hills? How about an English garden brimming with beautiful flowers? Now that you have the ceremony sorted (you did remember to do that didn’t you?) it’s time to find the perfect spot to dine, dance and create a wedding reception you and your guests will remember.

There is an abundance of reception venues in the Hunter Valley that can cater to weddings of any size, from intimate gatherings to bigger than Ben Hur extended family affairs. You may have an idea of the sort of place you’re after, or not a clue as to where to start. Don’t panic – start by browsing our Hunter Valley wedding venues directory and magazines for inspiration and ask around for recommendations. Do you want live music and a dance floor? Are you looking for glamorous and ritzy or casual and comfortable?

When you know a little more about what you want, short list some venues that look promising or have been recommended, make some calls and arrange a time to view them for yourselves.

You will need to have some basic information on hand: the estimated number of guests, date or dates you are looking to marry, and preferred time of day for the reception. If you know where the ceremony is being held, it makes sense to choose a venue in close proximity. Ask questions about access to the venue for set-up and about what is, and isn’t included in the price.

Then it’s just a case of deciding which venue best meets your needs, the size of your party, and your own personal style. You might opt for a dedicated reception venue, any of the many fine dining restaurants in the region, or even an accommodation option that provides areas for wedding receptions. Wherever you choose, you can look forward to some beautiful food, delicious wines, and perhaps some dancing to finish off the big night.

Wedding Venue: Hunter Valley Gardens

The Lakes Walk Rotunda Hunter Valley Gardens

The Lakes Walk Rotunda

A trip to the Hunter Valley Gardens is enough to make me want to get married all over again. Walking through the manicured lawns, there are many romantic spots for the perfect garden ceremony and even places to erect a marquee for a true garden wedding.

Ceremony Locations at Hunter Valley Gardens

There are five different garden locations, all with their own unique points of difference.

For a larger, more formal wedding there is the European Formal Garden. The background is amazing with water features along with hundreds of roses. The area is tiered and has plenty of room for guest chairs.

Within the Hunter Valley Gardens is a 10metre waterfall. If you choose to be married in the Sunken Garden this waterfall will be the backdrop to the ceremony.

Alternatively, you can be married at the top of the waterfall with scenic garden views.

If your wedding is slightly smaller, for 70 or less guests, the Oriental Garden is a special area. There is an Oriental Pagoda built over water, which is magical for a ceremony that is a little bit different. One half of the view is the water you are standing over and the other half is the gardens.

There is also a new wedding location at Hunter Valley Gardens and this is the Lakes Walk Rotunda. The elegant white structure, sitting on the waters edge and surrounded by giant weeping willows, looks like it is straight from a scene in a movie.

For those not looking for a garden ceremony, or even as a wet weather backup plan, the Hunter Valley Gardens also has a special chapel onsite created specifically for weddings. It is a non-denominational chapel so anyone can be married here with their own celebrant or priest. The chapel seats up to 150 guests on hand crafted pews and the large glass windows overlook the Brokenback Mountains and surrounding gardens.

Chinese Moongate, Hunter Valley Gardens

Reception Options at Hunter Valley Gardens

For the reception you can be indoors or out. As mentioned before you can choose to erect a marquee in the European Formal Gardens or the Sunken Garden. You could also try something new and opt for an open-air reception.

Alternatively there is the gorgeous Garden Terrace, a room with amazing views over the Oriental Garden. The minimum number of guests is 50, but the venue can hold up to 150 guests for a cocktail style reception.

The largest reception choice is The Barrel Room at Tempus Two Winery. This venue has a guest minimum of 70 and can hold up to 200 people cocktail style.

Offers and Guarantees from Hunter Valley Gardens

It’s not often you will be given guarantees from entertainment venues, but the folks at Hunter Valley Gardens want you to enjoy your special day without worry. Besides the wet weather back up option of moving your garden ceremony indoors to the chapel, you will also have a wet weather guarantee with your photos. This means if it rains on your wedding day, you and your photographer will be invited back another day so you can take your photos free of charge.

There is currently a Winter wedding special running where if you have your wedding in June, July or August you will receive your ceremony for free.

As part of any package you will also have a dedicated wedding coordinator who will not only assist you with your ceremony planning but will also be there on the day to help things run smoothly.

A buggy and wedding host will also be available to drive the bridal party around the grounds for photos for up to 2 hours.

So when looking for a special venue for your Hunter Valley wedding, make sure you drop by the Hunter Valley Gardens for a complimentary site inspection.
